Blog Journal #2

Throughout my years in elementary, middle, and high school I used Microsoft programs weekly, if not daily. I have used Microsoft word to write essays, take notes, and create flyers. For me, I prefer Microsoft processing systems compared to Google processing systems. I believe Microsoft has more variety and a more user friendly layout compared to Google that is harder to navigate.

The standard that means the most to me is the collaborator standard that states, "Educators dedicate time to collaborate with both colleagues and students to improve practice, discover and share resources and ideas, and solve problems." This standard means that it is important to hear and share others' ideas between coworkers and students. It is extremely important for K-12 educators and students to collaborate because two heads are better than one. When a group shares ideas, often the problem can be solved quicker and more effectively.

I believe the term digital native is an appropriate term for today's youth as many kids have never experienced a world without technology. Being a digital native means you grew up with and are very familiar with a variety of different technologies. There are a lot of differences between digital natives and digital immigrants. For example, students can often fix technological issues for teachers or even know how to work a program better than the teacher. Sometimes it is frustrating when the teacher takes a while to get the technology to work or doesn't know how to operate it altogether. I am positive that when I am a teacher, there will be major improvements in technology and I will not be able to operate them perfectly. My students will probably be frustrated with me as well.

  1. Yes, there will be new, advanced technologies in the future. That's why teachers should not stop learning through PLN (personal learning network) and PD (professional development) activities.
